Heart Breaking and Scary Stuff

by Carrie on December 17, 2012

I have to be honest with you all… These past few weeks have been scary and heart breaking….

First of all most of you know that my husband routinely gets laid off every winter because they don’t work on the roads in the winter time here. Well, he started getting his unemployment checks and we manage ok with it. But a few weeks ago for some reason or another he did not get that check. It was truly scary, because we didn’t have enough money to pay a couple of bills on time. He tried calling the office multiple times to figure out what was going on, but always got a busy signal. He then went into the office and was able to get it straightened out and we got our bills payed. He’s been trying to get a different job and I pray that they call this week. It’s just to scary to try to relie on unemployment with the way things are going these days.

Our oldest Joclyn 8 told our youngest Bella 4 that mom and dad are Santa and Mrs. Clause…. Now up until this Joclyn believed in Santa, so we sat down and had a talk. Apparently her cousin told her that your mom and dad are Santa because his mom told him. We told her that just because some one had to ruin it for her does not mean that it is right for her to ruin it for her sister too.  My heart broke at this…. Joclyn was truly heart-broken for a while. In fact I saw her last night looking at a piece of paper with sadness written all over her face. I asked her if I could see the paper. She handed it to me and it said:

She told me that she wrote this before her cousin had told her…. Luckily Bella now thinks that Santa is real.

Last Sunday my mom woke up to find her dog dead on the floor. She was only 8 and in perfect health. My mom was totally devastated. Then later that week another one of her dogs that has been battling with a massive tumor on his leg got even worse. The tumor had grown to the size bigger than a softball and was bleeding all over the place. I went with her to the vet and had to put him down.

I have not slept well in the last 3 nights…

My heart aches for those that were involved with the Sandy Hook shooting. When I found out what was going on I cried and I prayed…. What is happening?? Since this I have tried to make a little extra effort to love and cherish my daughters. I urge you to take a little extra time today to do the same with your family. You never know when life will be cut short to early…  A friend of mine posted this and I encourage you to share it with others as well….

Dear Jesus,
It’s a good thing you were born at night. This world sure seems dark. I have a good eye for silver linings. But they seem dimmer lately….
These killings, Lord. These children, Lord. Innocence violated. Raw evil demonstrated.

The whole world seems on edge. Trigger-happy. Ticked off. We hear threats of chemical weapons and nuclear bombs. Are we one button-push away from annihilation?

Your world seems a bit darker this Christmas. But you were born in the dark, right? You came at night. The shepherds were nightshift workers. The Wise Men followed a star. Your first cries were heard in the shadows. To see your face, Mary and Joseph needed a candle flame. It was dark. Dark with Herod’s jealousy. Dark with Roman oppression. Dark with poverty. Dark with violence.

Herod went on a rampage, killing babies. Joseph took you and your mom into Egypt. You were an immigrant before you were a Nazarene.

Oh, Lord Jesus, you entered the dark world of your day. Won’t you enter ours? We are weary of bloodshed. We, like the wise men, are looking for a star. We, like the shepherds, are kneeling at a manger.

This Christmas, we ask you, heal us, help us, be born anew in us.

Hopefully,
Your Children

I just got off the phone with my mom a little bit ago. We were talking about having this feeling that just something else is going to happen… The feeling of impending doom…. Apparently my dad feels it to.
I hope and pray that you all have a wonderful week! And don’t forget about the 12 Days of Fitness!!
